A Poetic Journey into the Nature of Poetry

A note from Tony:
The following is a poetic exploration of the nature of poetry that I wrote in 2015. At the time of writing, I think that I overvalued a stream of consciousness type of writing and undervalued giving my thoughts a more structured and polished form.
-
The joy of poetry to many is a mystery
Why is it that it soothes the soul and has for all of history?
The answer is quite clear, it is written on our hearts
We were created for love, unity, and bliss way back at the start
Harmony and rhyme have been since before time
Throughout all of heaven and in the Trinity divine
When we hear a similar flow
Something rings down below
In our hearts, beneath the mask
Where our true self glows
Then we get so happy
Sticky are poem's words to our minds like a tree that is sappy
And in our hearts we get a glimpse
Of something intellect can't convince
A glimpse at what we were created for
A taste that out there somewhere, there is much more
Chapter transition poem:
What’s the difference between poetry and song?
Song is the type of poetry with instrumentals, additional vocal reflections
And people who sing along
So when we talk about poems
You may say ‘I don’t know ‘em’
But if you know a song you surely do
If you love music, you’re loving poetry too
-
Why does music seem to play the deepest unseen chords?
Our heart strings played by sounds we abhor and adore
Song’s influence on the heart originates before time
Music was in the home of the one who made us in His image divine
All of us made in the image of the Creator of music, so we love it too
Music is risky because whatever you hear, you may accept as true
The sounds, the rhymes, the poetry
Makes the words seem true even when they’re folly
Guard your ears to guard your hearts, to stay free
Lest lies bound your heart oh so subtly
The value of music
Is determined by the one who uses it
Like money, it’s not good or bad intrinsic
But there’s such power even in a two second bit
How music stirs our hearts
How the heart’s waters it sometimes parts
How it can reach into old memories and cause healing’s start
How it can trigger emotions, so sweet, so tart
Why does soft music speak louder than a violent volumed speech
Even louder than words from kings we beseech
Why, why, why do I feel like I can fly after hearing my favorite song
Then I try to read a book and it just feels wrong
Are words made more powerful when they rhyme?
Or is it the rhyme itself that seems divine?
Words we believe always have so much power
But poetry helps reach your heart with them, helping us believe that very hour
Tasting sweet, so convincing us that the content itself isn’t sour
And when those words are believed, they become real to us
If they’re true, they take root and blossom like a beautiful flower
Like a flower it may be hard at first
To break through the soil and the dirt
But once the head is above
It will continue to grow with the water of the Spirit
And the sunshine of God’s love
-
Why read poetry?
Why not read science?
Science without poetry is a heart in defiance
Science simply means ‘with knowledge’, it’s ‘theories’ don’t require compliance
They’re theories indeed, many theories based only on little fact but much alliance
Between people who only have each other’s ideas as their reliance
Science is good, the intellect is grand
True science that is, based on truth, solid ground to stand
In which we need not defend with a demand
A demean by a majority who gleen at building on sinking sand
Is proof of their insecurity and reliance on mere man
Poetry though, on the other hand
In ways more mysterious, in others more foundational and tangible than dry land
Poetry - the art or creation of a creative
The realm of creating to all humans is native
For in the image of the Creator we were made
With ‘power to create’ in our hands laid
To create, buy, sell trade
More than commerce, contribute significantly - high grade
Things that mean good for people and cut out oppression like a blade
Poetry has a way of reaching beyond our masquerades
The false image and mask we have portrayed
Helping us know who we are and there we can stay
The game of faking we no more play
Façade goes way deeper than a mask we must say
Honesty without healing is useless like a non-explosive grenade
But here we are not exploding
Here we are gathering together the shattered
The pieces of our hearts from the places they were scattered
Crying will likely be there as you explore this domain
The place of your heart where you’ll find your true name
Poetry helps us do it
It plays our heart strings well
Like beautiful music stirs the heart, to, with joy swell
And like angry music hardens, with powerful influence as well
So where do we go from here? Let me tell
God who created the heart
He has a heart as well
He understands what it’s like to be torn apart
By abandonment and yells
He indeed is the most rejected one by those who don’t understand
Those who have yet to open their heart to his loving voice and hand
He is the one who heals our hearts
Time will never do
He uses poetry to reach our hearts with what is true
More than anyone times infinity He cares for you, plus two
The creator of trees, giraffes, watermelon, sex, music, eyes, and the color blue
Knows how to take a heart and make it new
Only he can heal the brokenhearted, and oh how He loves to!
Where do we begin with healing
Where do we even start
So much of our life the enemy has been stealing
Tell me where to begin the mending, which part?
This is where the delight comes in
Where we taste and see God is good
This is where religion doesn’t measure up
Indeed it never could
Religion’s rules and tools try to fill our cup
Separating us from what really could
Now we begin with God
Simply with Him
Being with Him
Just Him
Yes, being
With Him
No need for noise
There’s enough noise inside
Indeed it’s here with God we listen to our deep heart’s cry
Memories well up and we are aware of our questions of ‘why?’
All the times in life we tried and were denied
Where a word broke us, and instead of cry, we chose to hide
Or maybe we did cry but, we agreed with a lie
It could’ve been ‘I’m worthless’, ‘I’m unlovable’, ‘I never should try’
In the pain, we put a wall of protection, sieged that part, and in a way, it died
No longer capable of receiving the love it needs
We blocked out bad guys, but all the good guys too
Let the wall fall so you can again feed
On love and joy, you must risk your heart again to bleed
Love is risky but it’s irrational to think there is no love indeed
God will accept you, your heart heed
Let healing first begin to come
How do we start that race?
The cries and noise you hear inside, the burdens that weigh a ton
Invite Jesus in that place
Healing is not a sprint to run
It’s a journey with Jesus and people loving you, no need to run with haste
But please go with Jesus where he goes
Letting him set the perfect pace
Sometimes he speeds, sometimes he slows
Knowing when to bring up the things to face
In communion and cooperation with him
Let us let him heal every space
The past can’t simply be forgotten or erased
Healing is offered to us from the person of God
Who gives beauty for ashes, making wonderful our waste
The wastelands of the past
Becoming the palaces and castles of the future
Royalty, God’s kids, life a blast
Healing from and friendship with God for every son and daughter
God brings healing with the sweetness of His truth
Where a lie said ‘I’m ugly’
God heals by saying ‘beautiful are you’
He is love and he loves healing
With love and in love his healing hands revealing
Who he truly is, endless goodness spilling
Healing in His wings
Healing in His hands
Healing to all who will receive
Healing from the Son of God and Son of Man
Healing to all who believe
Healing to every land
Healing to every daughter
Healing to every son
Healing in His living water
Healing to God is fun
Healing is His heart for you
Healing is His gift
Healing belongs to you, soul and body made new
Healing for every rift
Healing for every hurt in the soul
Healing for every disease
Healing, no need for the Bethesda pool
Healing is God’s promise, not a tease
Healing and victory is yours not defeat
Healing and freedom is yours
Healing from the top of your head to the soles of your feet
Healing and on wings like eagles you’ll soar
Healing is His benefit
Healing, do not forget
Healing and forgiveness
Healing, so His name lift
Healing in His name Jehovah Rapha
Healing and no shame at all
Healing from God, Dad, our Abba
Healing do you hear His call
Healing and invitation “come unto Me”
Healing because He is meek and lowly
Healing for the tired, hurt, and weary
Healing will make your heart merry
Healing now not later
Healing all around
Healing from our Hero and Savior
Healing, do you hear the sound?
Healing by His hand
Healing bought with His blood
Healing is His plan
Healing like a flood
Healing has come so open up wide
Healing is here, Great Physician by your side
Healing he does, you’re along for the ride
Healing extended to you, reject every lie
Healing seen in your heart
Healing, receive by simple faith
Healing every broken part
Healing every day in every way
Healing rivers flowing
Healing waters are here
Healing if you let the waters into your heart be going
Healing and love casting out fear
Healing and love casting out fear
Healing and look! your redemption is near
Healing that no enemy can stop or sear
Healing, Jesus’ gift for you because he loves you dear
Chapter transition poem:
What else does poetry do?
Other than be used by God to express what is true
Cutting to the heart faster than what mere words can do
Making real things that you never and always ‘knew’
We’ve only touched the service of what happens when God speaks
Let us touch on a little more, this subject of love we all seek
Remember, this is not to say that poetry is God
But that God uses poetry, to go to our hearts and trod
There he soothes hearts and replaces lies with truth from above
When he speaks, in poetic form or not, he always speaks with love
-
I don’t believe poetry is defined
By words put together that rhyme
Even by phrases that seem to stand the test of time
I believe good and true poetry is from love divine
There are good and bad drugs
There are good and bad people
There are good and bad practices that promote good and evil
There is pure and foul
There is ouch and wow
There is lie and truth
How do we define? there is an absolute
It is what God has said in His word
The creator of every good thing has made clear the nature of what is heard
There are false gods
There are fake doctors
There are phony principles
That eventually falter
But true poetry stands the test of time
Because true poetry is true indeed by the standard of God divine
It’s flow and rhyme only helps it reach
The place where God wants you to know His love and speech
The God-breathing of content is what makes it true indeed
It is what makes it helpful to your need
And our greatest need is love which we search for with great speed
Love is the most basic need
It’s possible to miss even if all the books concerning it, we read
So how do we experience love? Tell me, I plead!
Open your heart to God, let’s journey and see!
Love is defined
By Love as patient and kind
It keeps no records of wrongs, trusts, and hopes all the time
It is not merely natural but divine
Lovers want to know your heart from big dreams to details fine
When you know God you can say ‘love is mine’
You can then love others as you let him love you showing a sign
To the world of what God is really like, misrepresentation is crime
Maybe the greatest crime of all
To represent Love as harsh and wanting of men to fall
For the opposite is true, God proved His love in this
Jesus lived and died for us to restore Eden’s bliss
All the glories of the original story that man through rebellion dismissed
Love is eternally alive, fully present
Enabling us to truly thrive, rooted and grounded in Love so pleasant
O’ if we’d experience the depth of God’s heart
To feel and know in our hearts this love and His art
Of all the ways he tells us ‘I love you’
The joys available if we’ll just believe this truth
To sing ‘Jesus loves me’
While believing, will make you more happy
Than trillionaires at a table counting their money
For love is eternal superseding temporary
We sometimes run from the goodness of he truth, for goodness can be scary
You are accepted for you
Who you are, not what you do!
That there is Someone who loves you true
Independent of all you’ve went through
And let’s make clear that He isn’t the author of evil’s pain
Though to access and heal the wounds, he may enter through the same
Faithful are the wounds of a friend
To deal with the wound entered in
Or to bind for a time to starve evil to it’s end
A message imparted in darkness, later revealed in light - a journey to begin
To help many, to give plenty, out of heart abundance
Mourning turning to joy, weeping to dance
The reality of this love, why don’t all feel it clear?
Why do some not know, while others feel held dear?
While perfect love casts out all their fear?
The answer is in love’s risk
God knew love would be risky but also the only means of bliss
With love there is free will
The choice to drink deeply of love, or to turn it over and spill
Many spilling because of a misconception of what’s in the cup
But if they’d taste and see, sweet love would fill them up
Many enemies of love have taken their stance
Lies about the heart of Love, what is in His glance?
Is it a sweet smile, or does he not even look?
Evil has lied about God’s heart since the apple Eve took
“Did God really say that?” God is holding out
Says the evil one, who spews lies in whispers and in shouts
When the lie is accepted, the acceptor pouts
Thinking maybe God isn’t as good as they thought, then comes a living water drought
If only we dared to cling to God’s truth
The freedom we’d find for me and for you
Love more vast than the seas and the ocean blue
To swim in utter safety, drowning impossible to do
More and more emerged, love in us through and through
Real in the deepest part of our beings outward to our bodies too
Shining with God’s glory, Jesus making all things new
Bringing heaven to earth, it is possible for all, not a special few
Love is the greatest weapon
To destroy the works of the devil Love incarnate was sent from heaven
A gentle loving word, Proverbs says “can break bones”
Softening of the heart comes where love is known
Influencing greater than the force of a twenty ton stone
Force hurts the physical but can’t heal the invisible, Love has that throne
Love is communicated in our tone
Sometimes in urgency a tone is surpassed
But love nonetheless is felt as sincere and steadfast
You can’t fake love any more than you can create love
Maybe to some you can
But most will sense true love, in your eyes, in the touch of your hand
Just because you’re not loving in the now doesn’t mean it’s not in you
Love comes from the core, the part of you most true
So when wearing a mask, attempted love is tainted
You need love yourself, to bring wholeness, a picture painted
Not half-done, no half-heartedness, but fully complete
No house divided, that leads to going in circles and defeat
Let us let Jesus heal our hearts like he promises to
To bring together the pieces, restoring the peace that was stolen from you
Love to wholeness the broken
Love to strength the weak
Love to life the lifeless
Love to greatness friends who stay meek
The meek, the meek, it is love that they seek
And they will inherit the earth
Intimacy precedes fruitfulness, love, then birth
Jesus is the perfect man’s name
And once you meet Love my friend, you will never be the same
In time you too will love untamed
If you keep letting his love flood you, your love will bring Him fame
The vastness of love God has for you
It’s infinite measure
Like trying to weigh the universe
Or in those cosmos find hidden treasure
Infinite indeed, always more to experience
Limitless rivers of joy and pleasure
As you live in his original design of relationship
Living life together
A tree planted by the water, strong in all weather
Abiding in God’s home, His child forever
Like a lullaby sung
To a child so young
Like the kiss on the softest cheek
God sings over you, son
And daughter, dear one
Dad is close, loving, smiling, strong, and meek
He is the place of the love you seek
Let Him hold you, it’s okay to feel weak
In His presence, fullness of joy
His love constantly he will employ
Love driving our fear
Fear, anger, and pain coming out in tears
Sincerity and hope do still shine
For God loves always, arms never closed, open all the time
Much labor for love to do
In your heart, it is true
But don’t be discouraged you hear
Just keep your heart open
To the Creator of you
And let Him continue to hold you dear
In His loving arms close and near
Love displacing all your fear
Love spread in our hearts by our Friend Holy Spirit
God loves you!
Please believe when you hear it
Love like the greatest flood, not a drop of spit
Love, the greatest fire to be lit
Love, the greatest desire to get
Love, the motive to see souls saved from the pit
Love, what the world needs in it
Love, in any willing heart will fit
Love, beyond all intellect and wit
Love, so deep in the heart it hits
Love, just relax, open your heart and sit
And let Jesus love you daily, not just a little bit
So, poetry and love
They do go hand in hand
Like an IV and the liquid within
Poetry can make way for love to enter women and man
Both with heart opening qualities
Love the greatest necessity
All of us have the capacity
Created with it to love even infinitely
First we must open our hearts to see
Not with our eyes but our hearts believe
God’s great love for you and me
Vast beyond measure waiting for a willing heart to receive
Chapter transition poem:
Love builds up
Poetry can too
Let me now explore
Poetic construction through teaching with you
-
Mr. Poetry the teacher
Taught me more than the preacher
More than an eloquent speech
Because great speech alone could not my heart’s walls breach
Indeed preacher was good and some words did reach
To my heart, but they were trickles of water not tsunamis on a beach
Violent with love, gently fierce
Are poetic floods which the heart do pierce
In an age of idolizing the mind
The heart is starving for love divine
In worship of the mind, we even neglect the facts
The facts we study, our minds can’t get passed
So even what we worship we reject
But of this crime, the heart’s neglect
O’ what if we taught young and old to dissect
Truth and fact, what a helpful project
To get truth in the heart before fact in the mind, both with love met
Teachings like evolution
What a grand delusion!
What a foul pollution!
What a hideous, low grade, substitution!
No true evidence to confirm it at all
But because of it, taught to our mind as fact, so many are caused to fall
But if we believed truth in our heart
That God really did author the start
We would easily tear evolution’s theory apart
The ‘smart ones’ with God’s wisdom we’ll easily outsmart
Poetry plus truth does teach
Lies in contrast suck out life like a leech
Poetry, let it first build the foundation
Let it, consecrated to God, anointed, exalt a nation
Tell of the heart of the Author of creation
Lead people to Him from everywhere in beautiful relation
Chapter transition poem:
In an ancient poem we’re taught things, yes three
One, that the heavens teach you and me
Speech poured forth through galaxies
Two, that every language understands it says Psalm nineteen verse three
Three, that these heavens declare God’s glory
They do tell a story
Of the work of God’s big hands
Art portrays the heart of the artist
So let’s study and be amazed at God so grand
The Creator of stars, the Creator of sand
-
Pluto
Do you know
You’re not an afterthought?
Mars
You’re not a star
But their brightness you reflect still, do you not?
Neptune
You have thirteen moons
Do you know from where you were brought?
I know where you came from
I know what brought you here
I know who thought you up
I actually know Him dear
The star Betelgeuse
The same artist made you who made the goose
You shine without shame or abuse
Unless your name is counted as abuse
If so, we declare no truce
It’s a funny name, like “moose”
God made moose also
Mice and rice, soprano and alto
Playful indeed, powerful more than we know
Just in the known universe an estimated 100 billion galaxies
Ours, the Milky Way, about 300 billion stars presently
What mind can fathom how vast the universe’s glory
Which is only a reflection of a small part of God’s majesty
Wow, can you say wow?
“Describe Me” says God, but how?
O’ but God said something when he made the stars in the sky
The universe, all galaxies, he said they were “good” up there high
And he says something amazing on creation’s sixth day
Shortly after he said to the newborn universe, “hey”
He created man in His own image and said they were “very good”
Compared to the glory bestowed
On us, made in His image, if we’d only know
And because of Jesus we can reflect the glory again
Jesus came to redeem what has been
In ancient days when Adam and Eve
Walked with God shining brightly
We now with unveiled faces reflect His glory
Shining, the light of the world for all to see
Those who look to Him shine radiantly
Righteous shining brighter and brighter until the full day comes to be
Glory to glory, faith to faith, brilliant, radiant, free
Indeed so weighty
If God lives in you
why don’t you let Him shine through
He has given glory to you
to shine for others, shining light, shining the true
for all his children not the few
Displaying for all love and an offer for all to have too
A relationship with the Creator of the universe, who?
The Creator of the universe, yes really
It is such a big thought, it almost seems silly
This creation that the creator made
speaks more of Him than mere words on a page
While reading what he says we must know his personality
Or all can seem bland, religious, and ghostly
Without knowing the tone of voice
Without knowing love was God’s choice
Without seeing the twinkle in His eyes
We may take his playfulness as meanness, and then despise
But O’ my friends, if we would recognize
His glorious personality
The creator of silliness, souls, sand, sex, stars, salads, and the sea
What bliss it would be!
To then read the words that he wrote for you and me!
We would clearly see
And great fruit would come from our tree
as we gladly delight and abide in God in awe and free
basking in his love, enjoying his playful personality
He created kangaroos, how silly indeed
He created buffalos and the color blue and the need to feed
Jesus told the Pharisees straight
you look for God in a book but don’t appreciate
that He’s standing right in front of you!
“You are looking for me!
but in your pride and misconception of God’s heart you can’t even see
though with your physical eyes you see God Himself clearly”
Look at the grass that grows, look at the sky and sun
Don’t look too close or you’ll hurt the eye He created - and He created fun!
He created laughter and joy and love
And He fights for it, sent Jesus from above
To restore us, redeem us, bring us to Eden
Closeness with God again! tree of life, let’s be eatin’!
O’ please sit outside on a pretty morning
Please take in the beauty God made, the earth adorning
And as you begin to understand, this loving Persons heart
Don’t forget that it is displayed through his captivating art
Today please start!
Please take his offer of life and relationship, it’s so sweet not tart
The world’s evil are not of his doing
The world’s good is His wooing
The enemy has distorted
Because in the beauty and danger of free will
Man gave dominion to the devil
His evil wrath he now spills
And God o’ so faithful, even when it hurts
Stayed true to true love which is risky
And will one day take back earth
Chapter transition poem:
It’s a grand thing to tell stories about the Author of ours
to speak to the characters about their Creator who also created stars
We are not characters though like in a fiction book
Where the author can control actions and every look
While creation indeed
We are creators too
Writers of the story along with the Author, He has a need
For us to write with Him, yes you
-
O’ the history of man
how far from God’s plan
so full of hurt and strife
But as a poet penned
named David who with God ran
said ‘God your love is better than life’
Where are those who say “we’re well able”?
where are those who may appear in a good way unstable?
they are men and women with heart
it is them in whom the hope of the future lies
A poet doesn’t have to rhyme
a poet doesn’t have to be innocent of all crime
a poet doesn’t even need to own a dime
but they need to own a heart
they need to feel so they can reveal this captivating art
now is the time to start
now is the time for you to start
arise and shine! your light has come
God’s glory shines on you, reflect it daughter or son
you have glory in you, a city on a hill
submit to God with yielded will
Your life is the pen
where are the men
whom have God as a friend
the offer is for all ladies and gents
but by religious distortion, God’s image is bent
counterfeits ruin an economy, O’ how they’ve been spent!
but let’s know Him as He is
you don’t need to be a wiz
you just need to have a heart, which we all do
open it to Jesus
“Jesus, show me the real you”
It is here where we will be held dear
love casts out our fear
our fear of inadequacy and fear of glory
preparing us to write this story
yes, write history with God and His family
Friends you were born to do nothing less
than shake the world with love and nations bless
in God’s presence rest, laboring with His energy more than the rest
delighting in this great treasure chest, full of gifts
forgiveness, life, comfort, healing for every rift
then making it known to the world
God’s love displayed
sharing these gifts
yes, this is how good history is made
just walking with God every day
-
The subject of beauty
where do we begin?
much more than just a cutie
though we could write ten thousand books on that again and again
that beauty was created in the image of One
whose radiance and beauty is infinitely brighter than the sun
captivating indeed, as approachable as a flower
David gazed on God’s beauty, a man who never cowers
beauty we need in this hour
and every hour as a matter of fact
how can we see and take in beauty when there seems to be lack
o’ there’s no lack, so do not dismay
much beauty all around to us displayed
we must have eyes to see
we must have ears to hear
we must have hearts open
to take in the beauty near
If only we could really see
all of the things we see
the beauty of the garden
the person, and the sea
If only we could really see
all of the things we see
the wonder of the stars
the splendor of a tree
If only we could really hear
all of the things we hear
that we are loved
and that God is near
If only we could really hear
all of the thing we hear
that life is fragile, number your days
live, love, and do not fear
Beauty, is there anyone more beautiful than my wife?
so captivated by beauty, all else fades in life
isn’t this true
admit it beauty awakens me and you
and it’s in many ways
it stirs us up to make meaningful use of our days
merely hearing a beautiful story or watching a play
can a burden on our hearts lay
to play
and fight for right without delay
I remember rising early to see the beauty of the sunset
awake before the sun was out yet
I now know I was rising for more than the sun
but to take in beauty and God’s word with a coffee, what fun!
I look back on that time, as very very sweet
with God those early mornings, I did meet
We must know something and trust
that God sees beauty when he looks at us
the you are more valuable than any could say
although it feels so real when they ignore your glory ray
o’ the hurt of an ignored soul
O’ the bliss when there you find God sees a jewel
so much more than a jewel indeed you are
remember you are “very good” when only “good” is a star
there’s none like you by far
all of us a special intimate place in God’s heart, His children we are
Beauty, we’ve only touched the surface
how about the beauty of heaven and the beauty of purpose
what is beauty? in it’s purest form?
the great definition of this marvelous norm
it almost seems like it’s like defining love or truth
it’s possible, but it’s greatest definition is it’s effect on you
it’s greatest definition is how it defines you
-
Like the playful waves touch your feet at the sea
are the gentle and sometimes fierce plays of poetry
Waves flow in and out, out and in
like a aance
another glance
a “we meet again”
Up and down, all around
dosey doh, here the sound
yippe dee
yippe dah
silly things we say
and we draw
even in our minds eye we can draw
the unseen things we all see can manifest awe
all of us have imagination good or bad
hope or sad
fun and glad
or angry and mad
but whatever you see
you will likely say
and whatever you say
you will likely see
it is hope and faith’s glory
or it is despair and fear’s sad story
Hear me, hear me, hear my joke
let me poke you, let me poke
let me trick you but with no deceit
let me create for you a beat
a song I can sing like a bird ‘tweet, tweet’
let me make silly faces
and go to random places
Playful playful
who thought play up
God! the creator of laughter
He fills our cup
O’ you talk about him much, some would say
if you knew Him as He was, you wouldn’t stop this way
you’d start it yourself, all day every day
but so many do not know of His heart
so we fear to speak, thinking others, will hatred start
but that is rarely true
O’ how they don’t know and hunger to hear what’s true
that God is good, what good news!
let us tell the whole truth
but let us do it with his whole heart
when light is seen it expels the dark!
-
Power, every boy wants power
I remember daydreams from the boyhood hour
sacrificing with a pure heart of valor
tackling criminals and saving the day
being seen as dangerous in a good way
with my hand and a sword, a dragon slay
jumping in front of a car to push one out of harm’s way
Why, o’ why did I have such desire
why o’ why do all men have that fire
we know that we are born to give
through giving, we truly live
we want to make a difference and reap what is sown
we want to know and want to be known
-
O’ the poetry in poetry
the thoughts in the mind
the thoughts in the heart
the rhythm and rhyme
waltz, keep time
one, two, three
our heart in our mind
present, in order, aligned
heart at the surface
not stuffed and told ‘bind’
alive and alive
breath with breath
God’s life flowing
giving life to death
bubbling brooks
out of our soul
the earth shook
when you let rivers roll
speak and use your voice
and first know your name
when you know who you are
in your voice won’t be shame
for you are loved
‘beloved’ is your name
and love kills fear
love frees, no more tame
Poetry in poetry
friends listen to this
there is ‘poetry’ with no poetry
that does exist
let us look at an example
a mere example of poetry within poetry
in words eternally
written in psalmistry
Mr. David was his name
a King who wrote poems without shame
open the Bible and take a read
his heart was poured out on pages he let it bleed
this was poetry
Poetry doesn’t have to do with stanzas and lines
but an open heart through all times
the joy and the gladness
the bliss and madness
oh and yes the sadness
the goodness and badness
poetry, David had this
A man after God’s heart
what a name
a man wild to the core
not tame
because of the silence of the fields
with God, to God he did yield
in silence his heart was tuned
God the Father wooed
With His love that’s better than life
David drew close to God
learned to love and fight
not so much like learning from a textbook
but from experiencing God’s love and loving look
killing the lion and the bear with initiation God took
David to prepare for the future kingship, that his line never forsook

Do you ever write a song while a song is playing?
no, it’s a distraction from hearing what your heart is saying
If you tune into your heart
a new song you’ll hear
You’ll write down music
that many will love dear
because it is rare
that their own heart, they hear
Why don’t they their own heart hear?
Sometimes fear
sometimes they know something is off, but it’s not clear
unbalanced drivenness has pushed their heart to the rear
when the heart should be foremost, as Solomon said sincere
Everyone has a song
everyone has a story
everyone has much worth
though often hidden, great glory
Before original sin
was original glory
we carry both around
a horrible mix, sometimes brings inner fury
But if we look deep down
we can hear our hearts sound
We can write it on a page
it helps vent your rage
verbalizing your heart no matter your age
may it help you heal and break out of the cage
-
Poetry is not mere entertainment
but here is why it is such
poetry, music, and stories
everyone loves so much
it’s the language of the heart
you can’t drive stick without a clutch
you can’t truly live without heart
we need our heart, by God touched
Did God give you desire
to shove it down deep
did God give you desire
to bury it under being busy’s heap
O’ desire
it is God’s greatest gift
O’ fragile desire
caused by painful rifts
O’ desire
how God lovingly sifts
O’ desire
our roadmap to His plan and gifts
O’ desire
when fulfilled our countenance lifts
O’ desire
when killed into darkness we drift
But O’ desire when redeemed
when touched by One’s hands
when nurtured and allowed to dream
when imagination’s free to make plans
even when circumstances seem
like desires will not stand
keep desiring and gleam
for hope lost is the death of man

Poetry and creation
Creativity and innovation,
Things that distinguish a man and distinguish a nation.
Creative solutions easing a hard situation.
Creativity flowing from God’s creative creation.
Creativity to us, God’s delegation.
Just be human, no need for ordination.
It flows, don’t create over complication
Or creating will be hard with agitation.
Just let ideas come and put off application.
Let ideas come and submit to their saturation.
Let it take place, incubation.
Then give birth without regulation.
It can be messy, avoid sanitation.
Ride the wave of creativity, elevation
To maybe destiny, or at least some destination.
Much at stake, not just recreation.
The joy of creating, o’ what sensation.
The pain of not, o’ such devastation.
Putting off your purpose, deadly stagnation.
Get some creative time, desire it’s implication.
O’ the joys of creativity’s play and celebration.
Sometimes spurred by loving affirmation
Other times nurtured by a needed vacation.
I’d recommending making creativity your vocation.
Too many are satisfied with mere contemplation
Or others sunken ship with resignation.
Maybe start with a declaration
That "I will awaken to fascination."
Please friend, come to the realization
Of creativity’s needed relaxation
To tap into your creative reservation
To turn it loose to the population
To the world bringing helpful transformation
An example and presentation
That they can raise their expectation
That they can have immense inner motivation.
Desire lifting higher limitation
Bringing forth more liberation
Creating with deliberation
Purpose and for world reformation
Though maybe first for only personal jubilation.
Creating often happens in isolation
But it’s so fun to have each other's validation
And give it to each other, it creates radiation
Closeness and intimacy’s invitation
So many creative wonders, such variation
Reaching beyond every classification
Blessing and enhancing all of civilization
With great collaboration
Much communication
Superb celebration
Kind articulation
Rapid multiplication
Playful qualification
Hopeful visualization
With all our generation
Rejecting limiting moderation.
Beautiful manifestation
To God’s glorification.
For this let use our infinite imagination
With God and submitted to Him in total blissful consecration.
All heaven and earth to Jesus giving a standing ovation
With allegiance to and love for Him, the world’s heavenization.

People are marked with a seal
creativity so real
ability to make a deal
ability to feelings feel
the ability to create and fill
the world with good things, to help with zeal
in medication the pill
helping treat the ill
the body helping to heal
the frozen meal
a fishing reel
to the moon went Neal
what a thrill
and we can’t forget the wheel
and the automobile
or that internet ordeal
What if just one of those things were not created
imagine where the world would be, it’s hard to do
what if of your creativity you were educated
you could create world-blessing things too

Now that this poem is coming to an end
it is your turn to write my friend
friend, you do not need a pen
you don’t need to sit down in your den
to try to write a book, two, or ten
poetry and story is the life of men
men, women, not some but all of them
So imagine your life as a movie
imagine your greatest scenes
for your movie is indeed on the biggest screen
many look to you and from you glean
Think of how you want the story to be
and when faced when a decision see
your choice will influence everybody
let your actions be something you’d want all to see
If you knew the good inside
friend you would not hide
you may say, well how about the bad, lad?
you must come into the light for the mad to turn glad
for light to shine, truth divine, and set you free from bad
Jesus came to set free and to heal
from the enemy’s vices that are so real
turn to Jesus receive his gift, the best deal
free for you, was so costly to him, forgiveness, and Holy Spirit to seal
He’ll awaken your heart
yes it will come alive
your story afresh you can start
wherever He leads you, you’ll thrive
wherever He leads you, you’ll thrive
