I See a Promised Land!

I see the promised land appearing o’er the sea;

I see the city that God has prepared for you and me.

Its light shines and lifts my eyes from the world and cares;

Yes, I see it in my heart, O how I wish to be there!

It is my compass; it is my anchor, yes, the promise of God,

Strengthens my soul and steadies my steps on this narrow path I trod.

Sometimes the desire for God’s dwelling place thrills and fills my soul;

Many of the desires I thought I had seem to lose their control.

Fleshly desires lose their grip, sure that is true;

But even some good things that I want, lose their appeal too.

The light of their attraction is outshined by the Son,

And Lord, we ask with lifted eyes, come, Lord Jesus, come.

Fairest of ten thousand, Desire of Nations,

We long to see You and Your new creation!
